Lua Pele ukulele was a special challenge I under took with my friends from the Waialua Sky Ukulele Builders (Ukulele Guild of Hawaii) to build a double back ukulele. We each built our own version of a double back ukulele and presented them at The Hawaiian Ukulele Experience showcase in Honolulu, HI the weekend of November 17-19th 2023. I met many amazing Hawaiian ukulele builders and players at the exhibition and everyone who sampled Lua Pele was amazed at its light weight, excellent sound projection, and super comfortable set up.

Lua Pele features a kasha braced engelmann spruce soundboard with a "live back" western red cedar inner back. The warm cedar and bright spruce vibrate together to create a wonderful tone. The outer back and sides are Brazilian walnut that I processed myself, and so are the fingerboard, bridge, and faceplates. Lua Pele has a comfortable c-shaped mahogany neck and bloodwood binding to pick up the warm tones of the body and neck wood.

Lua Pele is packed with extra features and ornamentation including:

- 6 piece volcano inlay on outer back

- lava fissure inlay on face of fingerboard

- radiused fingerboard

- double side sound holes with custom shape

- alternating binding on fingerboard acting as position markers

- Gotoh planetary tuners with black bell buttons

- red and black purfling lines

- custom headstock logo
