CTrietsch Mahogany Sunburst Long Scale Tenor Ukulele

CTrietsch Mahogany Sunburst Long Scale Tenor Ukulele

This tenor ukulele is crafted from reclaimed mahogany sourced locally and processed myself in the shop. I dressed it up with a beautiful sunburst finish: warm amber wood tones in the center transitioning into black near the edge. You'll see this 2 tone sunburst on both the top and back AND the sides + neck as well.  Kimo Hussey prefers a 19" scale tenor ukulele, and he sure enjoyed playing this one! The extra two inches of string length has two major impacts on the ukulele's sound and feel. First off, the fret spacing is a little wider than the typical tenor ukulele but not quite as far apart as a baritone fingerboard. This gives player's a little more space to work in between frets while still being able to pull off those 5-7 fret stretches (or more!) between notes. Secondly, the added scale length paired with a tenor body moves the bridge about an inch lower on the body, locking the bridge saddle into that sweet spot on the ukulele where the body is widest. The result is better soundboard activation so the ukulele responds to the lightest touch with a big, warm sound. Currently set up with a re-entrant string tuning. Curly Maple Ukulele with Heel Carving and Soundport

This is a handmade CTrietsch Ukuleles tenor sized ukulele completed in 2019, and built on Long Island, New York. The luthier, Christopher Trietsch, is an avid ukulele player who writes, records, and performs original instrumental music on his own handmade ukuleles. All of his experience as a musician and recording artist informs his building so that he truly understands how to craft high quality ukuleles. In each build, he captures superior tone and depth of sound, building ukuleles that are a joy to play and hold in your hands. This tenor ukulele is crafted from solid tone woods: aged curly maple for the soundboard and back. The neck and sides are also made from maple with an oak plate on both sides of the headstock. The set of maple used for this ukulele is special because it was locally sourced on the north shore of Long Island - recovered from storm downed trees. It was processed (quarter sawn), stickered, and aged in our shop for 25+ years before being selected and used for this ukulele. The wood therefore has a distinctly American Northeast (New England area) history, and this ukulele was born a New Yorker. This ukulele highlights a beautiful, hand carved and stippled double leaf heel carving at the base of the neck. This elegant detail was symmetrically carved on both sides of the neck heel. The ukulele also features a player’s port, or sound port, that was designed into the upper bout of the instrument for enhanced player feedback. The headstock is shaped in the “open book” design which is echoed at the bottom of the fingerboard for a finished look. The Hawaiian Ukulele Experience is an event hosted by the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii annually to showcase an incredible array of one-of-a-kind custom ukulele made by local, national, and international ukulele builders. This year's event was hosted on Nov. 17-19th at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii and attracted amazingly talented builders and players alike. I was honored with the opportunity to exhibit 3 of my ukulele at the show this year alongside my Waialua Sky Ukulele Builders Ohana, and I was lucky enough to record a few spectacular musicians sampling my recently completed, double back, Pele Ukulele. Handmade Cherry Tenor Ukulele

Handmade Cherry Tenor Ukulele

This is a handmade CTrietsch Ukuleles tenor sized ukulele completed in 2020, and built on Long Island, New York. This tenor ukulele is crafted from solid tone woods: aged Cherry for the soundboard, back, sides, and neck. The set of cherry used for this ukulele is special because it was locally sourced on the north shore of Long Island - recovered from storm downed trees. It was processed (quarter sawn), stickered, and aged in our shop for 25+ years before being selected and used for this ukulele. The wood therefore has a distinctly American Northeast (New England area) history, and this ukulele was born a New Yorker. Cherry is an excellent tone wood, and this will become your go to ukulele for any style of playing: it is comfortable to hold and has a bright, responsive voice. The 12’ radius on the fingerboard and thin neck enhances player comfort - especially on those difficult to hold bar chords - and improves fretting accuracy resulting in a good, consistent tone while playing. The headstock is shaped in a “bell top” design and the maple binding along the body and fingerboard elegantly contrasts the deeper brown figuring of the cherry. This is an ukulele that you are NOT going to want to put down once you pick it up. Ukulele Dimensions: Lower bout: 9 1/4”, Upper bout: 7” , Waist: 6” , Overall Length: 27 1/4” , Depth: 3” , Body Length: 11 3/4” Specs: Tenor size - 17" scale length 14 frets to the body, 18 frets total Abalone shell position markers and sound hole rosette Rosewood family (bubinga) fingerboard Handmade, Sycamore bridge Solid Maple binding Bound body and fingerboard Solid Cherry tone wood body and neck Locally sourced tone wood (American Northeast) Domed top and back Bell top headstock design Headstock inlay TRIETSCH & SON scroll Open back, Grover geared tuners - 14:1 ratio and white buttons Bone Nut and Saddle Compensated Saddle for improved intonation Thin, hand-rubbed gloss finish Nickel Silver Frets 🎞 🎬 Join Chris' patreon for access to exclusive ukulele content at patreon.com/ChrisTrietsch 🎧🎶 Listen to Chris' debut album "Beginning Today" at ChristopherTrietsch.wixsite.com/ukulele/music 🪚 View Chris' custom, handmade CTrietsch Ukuleles at ChristopherTrietsch.wixsite.com/ukulele/ukuleles ~SOCIAL MEDIA~ 🐬 Instagram 🐬 https://www.instagram.com/ctrietschukuleles/ 🐋 Facebook 🐋 https://www.facebook.com/CTrietschUkuleles Contact: christophertrietsch.wixsite.com/ukulele/contact

American Chestnut Wormy Tenor Ukulele

American Chestnut Wormy Tenor Ukulele

Recovered wood from a species nearly destroyed by blight This is a handmade CTrietsch Ukuleles tenor sized ukulele completed in 2012, and built on Long Island, New York. This tenor ukulele was crafted in special collaboration with the American Chestnut Foundation in 2012 in an effort to raise awareness and educate the community about the American Chestnut tree. We became interested in building an ukulele from American Chestnut wood after making ukuleles from other local hardwoods native to Long Island. Referred to as the “Redwood of the East,” the American Chestnut tree once accounted for 25% of the total trees in the Appalachian forests. In 1904, a fungus disease called “blight” was first discovered in the tree and by 1950, the species was virtually wiped out. The few remaining American Chestnut trees struggle to grow more than a couple feet tall, and conservationists have been working for many years to try to cross pollinate the surviving trees to develop a blight resistant American Chestnut. For more information on the American Chestnut, you can visit The American Chestnut Foundation at www.acf.org. Through Allen Nichols of the American Chestnut Foundation, we were able to obtain a few board feet of American Chestnut cut from dead standing trees in the 1950’s and placed in storage since then. Unfortunately, the dead standing trees were subject to insect infestation and the wood became “wormy” before conservationists were able to process and store it. The worm holes are visible on this ukulele and were filled with an epoxy-sawdust mix to make the wood workable and structurally sound. The filled holes are a reminder of the history of the American Chestnut tree and the blight that destroyed so much of its population. American Chestnut is an excellent tone wood, and this ukulele shows it. The sound is clear and bright and the playing action is silky smooth with a nylon string set up. A special feature of this ukulele is the hand etched American Chestnut leaf that is inlayed in white corian on the headstock’s faceplate. If you recognize this leaf and find an American Chestnut Tree growing, you can submit a leaf or twig sample to your regional chapter at ACF.org to help support their research and recovery efforts.
